Considering the economy, and the fact that the ring does not put a roof over your head, keep you warm, or well-fed I would see it as irresponsible to spend hundreds, if not thousands on them. She had it professional edited, and critiqued. She tried for over 2 years to get her book published by all the publishers that would look at manuscripts from unknown authors. She found a publisher that published her book at no cost to her. However they keep wanting her to purchase additional books. She will not get her first royalty check until August. Even if you're not specifically writing your masterpiece, write at least 500 words a day. About anything. Bin the finished goods at the end if you don't intend using it. Using your writing brain is all about practice. The more you write, the better you get.
