As everyone has already explained...anywhere from free to about $200-$300 and it does depend where you live. I have found that there are 3 levels of fees for neutering: The highest is the private practice vet. One lady told me that she was charged over $300, but I found out that wasn't just neutering. It also included medications and shots. The second is the low cost services. I used this the last time I had my cat neutered because I was unemployed and had minimal income. Also if you are on assistance or if you are receiving disability ,many places will give you a price break and the services are provided on your ability to pay. The third are services that are funded through a foundation where a philanthropic person or group of people have left or donated large sums of money for the sole purpose of providing free sterilization to people who cannot afford to pay a part or any of the fee. This is usually done by way of a voucher that you obtain and then take it to a vet that is participating in the program. The other answers have given accurate costs.
